Crane, Blackett announce engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Larry and Paula Crane of White Hall announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Makeda Shardae Crane, to Theodore Carl Blackett, the son of Mrs. Theodora James and Mr. Callixtus Hilary Blackett, Sr., both of Brooklyn, New York.

Lacey Stover to wed Tyler Cox

Jeff and Theresa Stover of Sheridan announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lacey Nicole Stover, to Tyler Jay Cox, son of Steve and Donna Cox of White Hall. The prospective bride is a graduate of Sheridan High School and attended Arkansas Tech University. She is employed at Hunter’s Animal Hospital in White Hall. The prospective groom is a graduate of White Hall High School and a graduate of Arkansas Tech University. He is employed by Union Pacific Railroad.

UAPB theater department to present Flyin' West

The John McLinn Ross Players, the premier theatrical performance group at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will open their Onward and Upward season with a performance of Flyin’ West by Pearl Cleage. Directed by Cheryl Collins, director of Theater, the show will run Nov. 21 through Nov. 24 in the John M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Center.

A day in court

I have a lawyer friend. A friend, that is, who just happens to be a lawyer. And she invites me to spend the morning at criminal court, observing. And I say “yes,” the same way I agree to a lot of things in life.

The history of Hollywood

Hollywood, the city of glitz and glamor, was started in a one-room adobe shack, according to Jacque Walker, who along with Kitty Rubenstein presented “The History of Hollywood,” the first in a series of programs for the Mathontes Club’s yearlong study of “Hollywood.” The meeting was held at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

Redfield native recognized at OBU homecoming

Kelsey Willis, a senior chemistry and biology major from Redfield, represented the American Chemical Society in homecoming ceremonies on Oct. 12 at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. She also is involved in Tri Chi women’s social club and Alpha Chi national college honor society. She was escorted by her father, Troy Willis.
