The Golden Lions of the diamond finsih the regular with solid victory

Finishing the regular season off strongly is always the objective when heading into the post season. It’s also always better to send your seniors out with a win on senior day instead of a loss. The 2015-2016 Western Division champion UAPB Golden Lions did just that by knocking off the Alcorn State Braves in the regular season finale at the Torii Hunter Complex by a final score of 15-6.

UCA picks apart UAPB for unchallenged win

The last non-conference game of the regular season wasn’t very pleasing for the Golden Lions. Tuesday evening, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (20-23) hosted the University of Central Arkansas (22-23), and the Bears were able to jump out and stay on top of the Golden Lions to win by a final score of 9-0.

Weather cancels UAPB weekend games

After his team’s Southwestern Athletic Conference series with Southern University was canceled due to already fallen rain and expected rain through the weekend, Arkansas-Pine Bluff baseball coach Carlos James did something few coaches, in any sport, would ever do: He admitted his focus isn’t on his team’s next game.

A Helping Foot

Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation and the Arkansas-Pine Bluff soccer program held a youth soccer clinic at the University on Nov. 21. After inclement weather forced all activities to be moved inside the ROTC Building, children from the community were given an opportunity to take part in various soccer drills, were instructed on how to play the game of soccer and were allowed to play a game of soccer with the Lions. The event was free to the public. Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation will open registration in its Youth Soccer League in January, with the season set to begin in the spring. All boys and girls between the ages of 5-14 that are interested can apply by contacting Parks and Recreation at 870-536-0920.

UAPB women fall at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. — Less than 24 hours after the Arkansas-Pine Bluff men’s basketball team dropped an 80-45 decision to Virginia Tech, the school’s women’s basketball team fell to Ole Miss by the exact same score on Sunday at Tad Smith Coliseum.

SWAC Repeat

Alcorn State’s Arron Baker and his son celebrate a 59-21 victory over Grambling State in the SWAC Championship Game in Houston. The victory gives the Braves their second consecutive SWAC title and a bid to the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta. (Special to The Commercial/Michael Sudhalter)

Blazers rout Lions

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — After three straight wins, the Arkansas-Pine Bluff women’s basketball team seemed to regress against Alabama-Birgmingham on Thursday night. Either that or the step up in competition level from NAIA opponents to Division I foes sent the Golden Lions to their fourth loss of the season.
