Craig Raye led an all-Arkansas-Pine Bluff coaching staff for the South team in Saturday’s FCS Senior Scout Bowl in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The South, which included UAPB wide receiver Thomas Winters, defeated the North 16-13 on a made field goal with 3 seconds left. Winters was named team captain by the coaching staff.
“We were recommended and nominated by other coaches from the previous year for winning the SWAC championship,” said Raye, UAPB’s assistant head coach and wide receivers mentor.
Defensive backs coach Henry Miller was the South’s offensive coordinator. He was joined on the staff by running backs coach Keith Saine, defensive line coach Dwayne Curry and graduate assistant Joseph Hawthorne.
“We really had a good experience,” Raye said. “We had a good time coaching guys from the FCS.”
Statistics from Saturday’s game weren’t available, but Winters said he caught about five passes for 35 yards.
“It was a good experience,” said Winters, who will head to Miami in January to train for a possible professional career. “I met a lot of people who said they can help me.”
