Arkansas-Pine Bluff recently announced a signing class of 18 for its baseball team.
The class includes four from Arkansas: Josh Cassidy of Magnolia, Mason Chapmond and Andrew Seymour of Hot Springs, and Jordan Haas of Clarksville.
The other commitments include: Andre Davis of Castro Valley, Calif.; Nate Ross of Albuquerque, N.M.; Skyler Henson of Marionville, Mo.; Felix Baez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Fabian Chirino of Hialeah, Fla.; Vladimir Gomez of New York; Eddie Martinez of Pahrump, Nev.; Jose Hernandez of Killeen, Texas; Jerimiah Figueroa of Chicago; Mitch Bruckshaw of Des Moines, Iowa; Dixon Marble of Trementon, Utah; Rashawn Tillman of Oakland, Calif.; Sam Olson of Bozeman, Mont.; and Andrew Walsh of Magnolia, N.J.
“I am extremely excited about this class,” James said in a news release. “(Assistant) coach (Marc) MacMillan was able to fill our needs with, as we say, the ‘right fit.’ We were looking for quality talent and depth along with outstanding young men who possess high academic standards for excellence. In addition, these young men want to wear the Black and Gold of UAPB and continue the foundation that has been laid down by such former players as Cody De Mera, Stanten Jones and Jake Whitney, to name a few.”
UAPB finished 21-32 overall and 13-11 in the SWAC, earning James conference coach of the year honors. Among the Golden Lions’ season highlights was a 6-4 upset win at TCU on March 5.
Fall practice for the Lions began Friday. The 2014 UAPB baseball season will begin Feb. 14 at Tulane. The Lions’ first home game is March 1 against Prairie View A&M.
