OXFORD, Miss. — Junior Sikes Orvis had two hits and three RBIs and Ole Miss allowed just two hits by Arkansas-Pine Bluff as the No. 16 Rebels defeated the Golden Lions, 11-1, Wednesday at Swayze Field.
In front of an announced crowd of 6,783, Ole Miss (22-8) got off to a quick start — scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. They added three runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.
UAPB (8-20) scored its only run in the top of the fifth.
Evan Anderson picked up his first win of the season for Ole Miss. He allowed just one hit with one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings.
Kyle Schwartz was tagged with the loss for UAPB. He pitched one inning, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with a walk and no strikeouts. UAPB used eight different pitchers on Wednesday.
Behind Orvis, Ole Miss had three other players tally multiple hits. Austin Anderson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Will Allen was 2 for 2 with a pair of runs and Errol Robinson was 2 for 2 with a run.
Auston Bousfield was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
UAPB left six runners on base and committed two errors. Ole Miss had 11 hits and left four runners on base.
Isias Alcantar had the only two hits for UAPB.
UAPB will travel to Texas this weekend for a three-game series with Prairie View A&M beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Lions return home to face Lyon College at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
