Almost two weeks removed from nearly beating Texas Tech, the Arkansas-Pine Bluff women’s basketball team will get its Christmas break started Tuesday night with its second and final nonconference home game of the season.
UAPB (1-6) has proven competitive in two of its past three games against big-name opponents in Nebraska and Texas Tech. Tonight, NAIA member Talladega (Ala.) College could give the NCAA Division I Lady Lions another challenge.
Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in H.O. Clemmons Arena. Admission is free.
Talladega is 11-1 and ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Division I coaches’ poll. The Lady Tornadoes are 1-1 against NCAA teams this season, losing 70-50 at Kennesaw State on Nov. 3 but beating Samford 50-49 in Birmingham 11 days later.
UAPB is looking for another strong game from sophomore Cassidy Wright, who equaled a season-high with 16 points in the 58-50 loss at Texas Tech on Dec. 4. Wright leads the Lady Lions with 9.3 points per game on the season, followed by Christina Lasane’s 8.1 points.
Tuesday’s game will be the last at home for the Lady Lions until Jan. 18, when they host Southern. UAPB has games at Memphis (on Friday) and Arizona (on Dec. 29) before starting SWAC play.
