Lady Lions end season with walkoff win

A dropped fly ball by Prairie View A&M allowed the Arkansas-Pine Bluff softball team to end its season on a winning note.

Trailing entering the bottom of the seventh, UAPB plated a pair of runs to earn a 5-4 walkoff win.

Jordan Foyer led off the seventh with a single — her fourth hit in as many trips — and scored on Paige Garcia’s double with Garcia reaching third on the throw home. A pair of intentional walks loaded the bases for Maria Aguilar.

Aguilar hit a fly ball that could not be hauled in by the shortstop allowing Garcia to score the winning run.

Prairie View (11-27, 6-9 SWAC) took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. UAPB (9-38, 5-12) countered with a three-run homer by Jasmine Hardwrick, who finished the game 3 for 3, to tie the game.

Rolanda Murry earned the win in relief. Murry (2-6) threw the final 2 2/3 innings and recorded four strikeouts while giving up a walk and a run in the top of the seventh that gave Prairie View a short-lived 4-3 lead.

The Lady Panthers captured the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 5-2, eliminating the Lady Lions from possibly earning a spot in the SWAC Tournament.

Alexsis McCain (1-14) took the loss in Game 1. McCain only gave up five hits and a walk but errors led to three of the four runs she allowed.

Tiressa Jacobs had two hits in the opener, while Garcia had UAPB’s lone RBI.
