Harris earns another All-American honor

Jer-ryan Harris’ postseason honors list continues to grow.

The SWAC Defensive Player of the Year from Arkansas-Pine Bluff was named to the SBN (Sheridan Broadcasting Network) Sports Black College All-America Football Team. The announcement was made by American Urban Radio Networks and the Black College Football Hall of Fame in advance of the Feb. 28 SBN Black College All-American Awards Reception in Atlanta, according to a release from the SWAC.

It is the third All-American honor for Harris, a linebacker whose 10.7 tackles per game (107 for the season) led the SWAC and ranked sixth in the entire Football Championship Subdivision. Heritage Sports Radio Network and Boxtorow named him to their All-American lists.

Harris finished his career with 370 tackles (183 solo). He won the 2010 SWAC Freshman of the Year award after making 129 tackles and nearly reached the century mark again during UAPB’s 2012 SWAC championship season with 98 tackles.

Southern quarterback Dray Joseph was voted the Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year. South Carolina State linebacker Joe Thomas won the Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year honor and Tennessee State’s Rod Reed is the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.
