With the addition of Concordia College Alabama, Arkansas-Pine Bluff has released its entire 2014 football schedule.
UAPB will play all nine opponents in SWAC play, as usual, and begin the season with two nonconference games: Aug. 30 at Sun Belt Conference member Texas State in San Marcos and Sept. 6 at Golden Lion Stadium against Concordia, of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The Concordia game, billed as High School and Community Appreciation Day, is scheduled for 6 p.m. and is the first of five home games for UAPB, which went 2-9 (2-7 in SWAC) last year.
“I am looking forward to traveling to San Marcos, Texas, and playing Texas State for the first time in my tenure as head coach at UAPB and then playing Concordia College, the following week in our home opener at Golden Lion Stadium,” coach Monte Coleman said in a release.
After its first off date, UAPB will resume action Sept. 20 at Alabama State (time TBD), getting to play in the Hornets’ new on-campus stadium in Montgomery. Jackson State will visit UAPB on Sept. 27 before the Golden Lions go on a three-game road swing starting with Southern on Oct. 4, and resuming Oct. 18 with Grambling State and concluding Oct. 25 at Texas Southern (in Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium).
UAPB will hold its Take a Kid to the Game Day on Nov. 1 when it hosts Mississippi Valley State in Rick Comegy’s first visit to Pine Bluff as the Delta Devils coach. Comegy led Jackson State to the past two SWAC championship games.
Prairie View A&M will be the homecoming opponent for UAPB on Nov. 8. The Lions will visit Alcorn State the following weekend and close its season at home against Alabama A&M on Nov. 22. The Senior Day/Church Day game will mark the reunion of new UAPB offensive coordinator Anthony Jones with the AAMU program he led for 12 seasons.
“I truly believe this will be a very competitive season in the SWAC with the parity in the conference,” Coleman said.
