Barnes Honored

The late Tommy Barnes, the most successful coach in Arkansas-Monticello football history was honored Saturday with the unveiling of his bust inside the university’s indoor practice facility before kickoff of the UAM-Southwestern Oklahoma State game. Barnes coached the Boll Weevils from 1985-96, earning two playoff appearances in the NAIA and an Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1993. Posing with the bust are Barnes’ widow Kookie and former UAM standout Lance Gasaway, whose gift made the sculpture possible. David Deming of Cleveland sculpted the bust. New faces look to lead UAM volleyball

MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team will see a youth movement this season with a total of 11 newcomers, more than half of those coming from the high school ranks, and just four returning players making up the Cotton Blossoms roster.

UAM athletes up for GAC awards

Four outgoing seniors at Arkansas-Monticello are finalists for Great American Conference awards, which will be presented at the league’s annual Night of Champions set for 6:30 p.m. Monday inside the downtown Little Rock Marriott.
