More than 40 years have passed since Arkansas-Monticello and Arkansas-Little Rock have squared off in men’s basketball.
That will change Nov. 16 at 2 p.m., when UALR opens its season at home against the Division II Boll Weevils at the Jack Stephens Center. The Trojans released their schedule Monday.
“We have 13 weeks from now until our opener against UA-Monticello,” UALR coach Steve Shields said in a press release. “We’re coming off a very good summer from a workout standpoint with our guys. We look forward to the next phase as we lead up to the season.”
The two schools last met in the 1972-73 season, according to the release.
It will be the second of two exhibitions against Division I programs and the third game in as many days for the Boll Weevils, but the game will count against the Trojans’ record. The Weevils enter the season with a new head coach in Kyle Tolin.
UAM will play an exhibition at North Texas on Nov. 14 and visit Nicholls State on Dec. 16 in a game that will count.
Other nonconference games for UAM include: Champion Baptist at home Nov. 15, at Maryville (Mo.) on Nov. 25, Delta State at home Nov. 29, at Angelo State (Texas) on Dec. 20 and Ecclesia at home Feb. 10.
Other nonconference slate dates for UALR: As part of the Maui Invitational, at Brigham Young on Nov. 18, Missouri-Kansas City at home Nov. 22 and Cal State-Northridge or Samford on Nov. 23; Central Arkansas at home Nov. 29; Tulsa at home Dec. 7; Kent State at home Dec. 14 and, in the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Green Bay on Dec. 21 and Pepperdine or Bradley on Dec. 22.
The Classic, which is to be played at South Point Arena, is not to be confused with the Las Vegas Classic in which Arkansas-Pine Bluff will play that week at Orleans Arena.
