RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas-Monticello senior baseball player Ray Johnson was named the Great American Conference player of the week after leading the Boll Weevils (27-11, 17-7 GAC) to their third consecutive league series sweep.
Johnson hit .533 (8 for 15) in UAM’s loss to Delta State on Wednesday and three-game sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State on the road over the weekend. Six of his eight hits were for extra bases — three home runs and and three doubles.
The Bossier City, La. native posted a double in UAM’s midweek loss to Delta State before collecting at least one RBI in each of UAM’s wins over Southeastern.
Johnson is UAM’s third GAC player of the week honoree this season and second consecutive following Bronson Gillam’s selection last week.
Midweek games moved to Wednesday
MONTICELLO — Following the statewide rainfall over the weekend, the Arkansas-Monticello baseball and softball games originally scheduled for today has been pushed back one day to allow extra time for field preparation.
The UAM softball doubleheader against Southern Arkansas will now start a 1 p.m. at Lady Mulerider Field in Magnolia on Wednesday.
The UAM baseball team is now set to host Ouachita Baptist in a single nonconference game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Weevils Field.
