UAM athletes up for GAC awards

Four outgoing seniors at Arkansas-Monticello are finalists for Great American Conference awards, which will be presented at the league’s annual Night of Champions set for 6:30 p.m. Monday inside the downtown Little Rock Marriott.

UAM’s nominees for male and female athlete of the year and male and female student-athlete of the year all hail from the diamond.

Ben Agredano and Tyler Caruthers were members of the Boll Weevils baseball team that earned the program’s first NCAA tournament berth, while Beth Johnson and Brittany Eitel were members of the Cotton Blossoms softball team.

Agredano, the athlete of the year nominee, was a finalist for the Josh Willingham Award — the Division II MVP award — and set a school record with 81 hits this spring.

Caruthers earned the student-athlete of the year nomination for his work in the classroom and the community while also helping the Weevils reach unprecedented heights.

Johnson was named the female athlete of the year at UAM after picking up her third all-GAC honor. She started every game during her four-year career with the Blossoms and had a role in 140 wins.

Eitel is no stranger to being honored for her work off the diamond. She’s previously won the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete Award and D2 Athletic Director Association Academic Achievement Award.
