Lang lifts UAM to win over Union

JACKSON, Tenn. — Junior Alex Lang was responsible for all three of Arkansas-Monticello’s runs as UAM rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Union University 3-1 Tuesday afternoon.

Lang broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh with a two-run single to left and it gave the Boll Weevils (18-10) a 3-1 lead and eventual win.

He also had a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to tie the game. Lang finished the game 1 for 3 with three RBIs.

Union (5-17) scored its only run in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI single by Michael Flores. Flores finished 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Josh Mingura picks up the win for UAM. He pitched six innings, allowing one run (earned) on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Relief pitcher Teddy Christie is tagged with the loss for Union. He pitched three innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits with one strikeout.

Starter Samuel Davis pitched six innings, allowed one run (earned) on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

UAM was led at the plate by Ray Johnson. He finished 2 for 4. Justin Hollis, Evan Comeau, and Ben Agredano all had hits for the Weevils.

Union was led by Wacey Russell who finished 2 for 4. Zach Wylie and Jim Martin also had two hits each for Union.

UAM will return home this weekend for a three-game series with Great American Conference opponent Harding. Friday’s game will begin at 2 p.m.
