Harrison becomes Weevils’ 2nd straight Player of Week

RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas-Monticello senior guard Jared Harrison has been named the Great American Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Boll Weevils in a 2-0 week, including a nine-point win over No. 22 Angelo State.

He becomes UAM’s second GAC Player of the Week honoree after senior teammate Brandon Wilson earned the honors last Monday.

Harrison racked up a two-game total of 43 points while shooting 50 percent from the field (10-for-20), 75 percent on three-pointers (6-for-8) and 94 percent on free throws (17-for-18). He also totaled five rebounds, eight assists and three steals averaging 39 minutes per game in UAM’s wins over Philander Smith and Angelo State.

The Slidell, La., native started the week with 20 points in UAM’s 102-89 win over Philander Smith at home this past Tuesday. Harrison played all 40 minutes in that win and finished the game 11-for-12 from the free throw line.

On Saturday, Harrison helped UAM overcome a 12-point deficit early in the first half to defeat Angelo State 90-81. He led all scorers in the game with 23 points, highlighted by a 5-for-6 shooting performance on three-pointers. His five three-pointers was a career-high. Overall in that win, Harrison was 6-for-9 from the field and added six straight points at the foul line for UAM to regain a 10-point lead in the second half.

Harrison averages 12.4 points per game and ranks second in the GAC in assist to turnover ratio with 35 assists to only 12 turnovers.
