MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello baseball team got two outstandings complete-game efforts to sweep a doubleheader with Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Logan Johnson and Kade Garlington continued the impressive pitching performances the Boll Weevils (12-2, 4-1 Great American Conference) have had all season in 8-1 and 2-1 victories at Weevils Stadium.
Johnson (3-0) gave up 11 hits but worked himself out of trouble with double plays in the second, third, sixth and seventh innings en route to his second complete game of the season. He allowed just one run with four strikeouts and one walk in his nine innings of work.
Jonathan Johnson (1-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs (3-7, 1-4 GAC) after allowing six runs (four earned) off seven hits in the first five innings.
In the second game, Kade Garlington (2-2) sealed the series victory for UAM after giving up just one run off six hits in his first complete game of the season.
Ethan Davis (1-1) took the complete-game loss for SWOSU, giving up two runs off five hits with five strikeouts.
UAM goes for the series sweep on Sunday in a single nine-inning game starting at noon at Weevils Field.
