Migrating white pelicans create excitement

By now, we should be fairly familiar with pelicans moving through the Arkansas River corridor in Arkansas. Still, sightings of “big white birds” generate considerable conversation and Internet postings.

UAPB Fishing Team finishes fourth in Nov. 16 collegiate tournament

A team from Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished fourth in the Arkansas Collegiate Series tournament held Nov. 16 on the Arkansas River at Pine Bluff. Hunter Dickey and Ignacio Lopez-Morales weighed in with 11.74 pounds. Twenty teams from Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana participated in the third contest in the series which was hosted by the UAPB Fishing Team.

State Champs

The Pine Bluff American-Eastern softball team won the Little League 11- and 12-year-old state championship recently by beating Piggott 13-1. Pine Bluff will represent Arkansas in the Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas, starting July 26. LITTLE ROCK — David Shopher of McGehee fished each year in the Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza since its inception but never made it in the money until Saturday, when he won an hourly weigh-in.

Bonanza in SEARK tale of two pools

For all three days of last year's Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza, Eric Green of Rison had the biggest fish out of the Pine Bluff pool of the Arkansas River. That earned him $10,000.
