MONTICELLO — Arkansas-Monticello senior Mike Early earned his second Great American Conference player of the week honor, as announced by the league on Monday.
It took Ben Anderson a little longer than expected to play a game indicative of an Offensive Player of the Year in the SWAC, as he was voted again in the preseason.
The late Tommy Barnes, the most successful coach in Arkansas-Monticello football history was honored Saturday with the unveiling of his bust inside the university’s indoor practice facility before kickoff of the UAM-Southwestern Oklahoma State game. Barnes coached the Boll Weevils from 1985-96, earning two playoff appearances in the NAIA and an Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference championship in 1993. Posing with the bust are Barnes’ widow Kookie and former UAM standout Lance Gasaway, whose gift made the sculpture possible. David Deming of Cleveland sculpted the bust. FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said earlier this season left tackle Dan Skipper had become a marked man by officials because of his aggressiveness.
