New faces look to lead UAM volleyball

MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello volleyball team will see a youth movement this season with a total of 11 newcomers, more than half of those coming from the high school ranks, and just four returning players making up the Cotton Blossoms roster.

WACO, Texas — The Albuquerque (New Mexico) Little League baseball scored nine runs in the top of the ninth inning and held off Pine Bluff Western in the bottom half to win 13-8 in the first game of the 11- and 12-year-old Southwest Regional.

SEC Network tries to identify top game of each week

LITTLE ROCK — Inspired by the SEC’s announcement that all 14 schools will play football on the conference’s new network during the first four weeks of the season, the exercise in long-range planning was to identify the must-see game of the week while dealing with some self-imposed parameters.

Summer League Champions

The I Promise Stars, a group of Pine Bluff natives, recently competed in the Lonoke Community Center Summer Basketball League and won the regular-season title with an 11-2 record as well as the postseason tournament. Braves show no rust from lengthy break

BRYANT — The Pine Bluff Braves waited through a month’s worth of rainouts before returning to the field Sunday and beating the Bryant All-Stars 5-0 in semipro baseball at Bishop Park. The game ended after five innings because of the 2-hour time limit.
