Star City girls advance to tourney final

LITTLE ROCK — Jaida Harden scored 24 points including 9 of 10 from the free throw line as Star City defeated eStem in the semifinals of the Heavenly Hoops Tournament at Mount Saint Mary High School.

Harden also grabbed seven rebounds and was 6 of 9 from the field. Star City (4-1) led 24-20 at halftime after trailing 13-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Star City senior Lindsay Kiernan scored five points and grabbed six rebounds. She was also 3 for 4 from the free throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs will play for the championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Watson Chapel 57, Sylvan Hills 40

LITTLE ROCK — The Watson Chapel Lady Wildcats won their first game of the year to advance to the fifth place game of the Heavenly Hoops Tournament.

Watson Chapel (1-1) defeated Sylvan Hills, 57-40, behind 20 points by Krystalyne Miles.

Peyton Martin and Ladajah Scott chipped in with 11 and nine points, respectively.

The Lady Wildcats will play in the consolation final against host Mount Saint Mary at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.


Dollarway 42, Dumas 31

Dionte Wilson scored 20 points to lead the Dollarway junior high boys basketball team to a nine-point victory over Dumas Wednesday night in the Jack Robey Classic Tournament.

Kuron Brown scored 11 and Taris Hicks chipped in with five points as the Cardinals led 19-17 at halftime.

Jordan Simms was named to the all-tournament team for his performance on defense.

Dollarway (1-4) will play West Memphis Wonder in the first round of the Thanksgiving tournament at West Helena, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Jack Robey 30, Helena-West Helena 26

The Jack Robey junior high boys team improved to 4-1 on the year with a 30-26 win over Helen-West Helena in the Robey Classic.

Xavier Smith led Robey with nine points, while Brandon Little added 6.

Robey plays next at 7 p.m. Monday at home against Hot Springs.
