PCS athletes earn national recognition

DES MOINES, Iowa — Two weeks ago, seven athletes from the Port City SPEED Track Club competed in the AAU Junior Olympics Games at Drake University and five came home with national honors.

The 4x100 relay team, which came into the competition ranked eighth in the nation, clocked a personal best time of .53.02 earning a sixth place finish.

The team: Madison Taggart, Tyonna Hayes, Andreanna Dean and Praise Malone are all students in the Pine Bluff School District.

The team is now ranked sixth in the nation after their performance at the end of July.

Hayes also made it to the semifinal round of the 100-meter dash and competed in the 200-meter dash as well.

Dean competed in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes for 12-year-old girls.

Savannah Hill, 9, came home with a fourth place medal in the shot put competition.

The AAU Junior Olympics is one of the largest national sports competitions for youth in the United States.
