PB Braves eliminated

HOOVER, Ala. — The Pine Bluff semi-pro baseball team was eliminated from the World Wood Bat Championship after losing 8-4 to the Over the Mountain Gold team.

After the Gold scored three runs in the bottom of the third, the Gold tallied three hits and a sacrifice fly to spark a three-run fifth inning. They added to their lead in the sixth with a two-run home run.

The Braves scored two runs in the third, one in the fifth and one in the seventh.

James Mitchell was the losing pitcher.

The Braves saved off elimination in game two — defeating the Hermitage Pirates of Nashville, Tennessee, 6-1 thanks to a five spot in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chase Smith was credited with the win.

The Braves lost 6-2 to the Alabama Outlaws in the first game.
