LITTLE ROCK — A former middleweight boxing champion charged with shooting his cousin was released from the Pulaski County jail late Wednesday morning on a $25,000 bond.
Jermain Taylor, 36, is charged with aggravated assault and first-degree battery. According to a Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office report, a disturbance occurred at Taylor’s residence in the North Little Rock area on Tuesday evening, during which Taylor allegedly shot his cousin, 41-year-old Tyrone Dawayne Hinton of Jacksonville, multiple times.
Hinton was in serious condition Wednesday at a local hospital, Pulaski County Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden said.
Taylor has been given an Oct. 15 court date. His attorney did not immediately return a call Wednesday seeking comment.
Taylor became the professional middleweight boxing champion in 2005, a title he held until losing a bout to Kelly Pavlik in 2007. He also won a bronze medal in boxing in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
