Sports Hall of Fame tickets still available
MONTICELLO — Tickets are still available for the 2013 UAM Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet to be held October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center.
Tickets are $35 and may be purchased by calling Jan Stephenson in the Department of Athletics at 460-1058.
This year’s inductees are former football All-American Roland Autrey, 1950s football stalwart M. L. Mann, track and cross country All-American Jeff Pope, softball All-American Jodie Scott, and track All-American Milton Williams.
HSU upsets UAPB
ARKADELPHIA — Henderson State won just its second game of the year Thursday night by upsetting the Arkansas-Pine Bluff volleyball team in five sets, winning 3-2 (24-26, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-10).
Ashlie Jones played in all five sets and led the the Lady Lions with 22 kills and 11 digs to account for 23 points for UAPB. Whitney Harris had 15 kills and two digs in five sets.
Courtney Brand led UAPB (7-18, 1-2 SWAC) with 19 digs.
For Henderson State (2-13, 0-6 GAC), Jessica Moss had 13 kills and four blocks in five sets. Katrina Goulbourne had 13 kills and two blocks and Sarah Williams had eight kills and three blocks.
UAPB’s next game is at Southern University on Oct. 14 in Baton Rouge, La. beginning at 6 p.m.
Minnesota’s Kill steps away
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill is taking time away from the team to focus on his epilepsy treatment, Golden Gophers athletic director Norwood Teague announced Thursday.
Kill suffered his fifth seizure-related episode since taking the job at Minnesota in 2011 prior to the team’s Oct. 5 loss at Michigan.
Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys served as Minnesota’s acting head coach against Michigan and will continue in that role while Kill is away.
