SBC wins 2016 Southwest Regional, advances to Babe Ruth World Series

Tuesday night, Sylacauga, Ala., gave Southern Brazoria County their first loss of the 2016 13-15-year-old Southwest Regional tournament, but in order to win the title, Sylacauga would have to do it twice. By defeating SBC on Tuesday, Sylacauga forced another game that was played Wednesday morning, but this time the results were different. SBC beat Sylacauga by a final score of 5-3.

Sylacauga knocks off Mountain Home to advance to play for championship

After defeating Pine Bluff Northern Monday night by a final of 8-3, Mountain Home advanced to the semifinals, where they would face off against Sylacauga, Ala. Heading into the match-up Tuesday evening, both teams knew it was either win or go home. Mountain Home held their own in the game, but Sylacauga outlasted them, winning by a final score of 8-5.

Pine Bluff Northern eliminates White Hall in a local showdown

In previous match ups this season, the White Hall All Stars have had the advantage over Pine Bluff Northern, defeating them twice in the state tournament. But Pine Bluff would get a chance to redeem themselves Monday morning, as they squared off with White Hall in an elimination game of the 2016 Babe Ruth Southwest Regional. Pine Bluff put the previous games behind them and came out with a win, beating White Hall 7-6.

Golden Lions picked to finish fifth in the Western Division

Recently, the Southwestern Athletic Conference released its 2016 pre-season predictions, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions didn’t fare well. Coming off of one of the worst seasons in Head Coach Monte Coleman’s tenure (2-9,1-8) the Golen Lions were picked to finish fifth in the Western Division.

In the dog days of the summer, the cities of Pine Bluff and White Hall will be treated to a high quality level of baseball. The 2016 13-15 year-old Southwest Regional Tournament is set to begin on July 21 with an opening banquet, and the first game is scheduled to be played on July 22. Games will be played at the historic Taylor Field and also on the campus of the White Hall Bulldogs at their baseball complex.

2016 PRO-DAY Arkansas Future Stars Showcase successful

The bad weather held off, and the 2016 PRO-DAY Future Showcase was able to proceed smoothly. This year’s showcase featured twelve participants that displayed their talents in front of a number of college coaches, scouts, and professional scouts. PRO-DAY has continued to expand over the years, and the purpose and the production is a large reason for that.

Blake Phillips headed to play for the Arkansas Baptist College Bucs

Standout catcher, Blake Phillips, of the Watson Chapel Wildcats signed his letter of intent Friday morning. Phillips will further his baseball career at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas. This was a proud moment for Watson Chapel’s head baseball coach Chad Cope, as he’s seen Phillips grow into the young man that he is today.
