2016 PRO-DAY Arkansas Future Stars Showcase successful

The bad weather held off, and the 2016 PRO-DAY Future Showcase was able to proceed smoothly. This year’s showcase featured twelve participants that displayed their talents in front of a number of college coaches, scouts, and professional scouts. PRO-DAY has continued to expand over the years, and the purpose and the production is a large reason for that.

Blake Phillips headed to play for the Arkansas Baptist College Bucs

Standout catcher, Blake Phillips, of the Watson Chapel Wildcats signed his letter of intent Friday morning. Phillips will further his baseball career at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock, Arkansas. This was a proud moment for Watson Chapel’s head baseball coach Chad Cope, as he’s seen Phillips grow into the young man that he is today.

Sheridan caps of great run securing the 2016 6A state title

The Sheridan Lady Yellow Jackets ended their season on an amazing run that was capped off with a 2016 state softball championship. Sheridan (23-7) were tough all season long, and when it was time for them to play their best ball, they did just that. Saturday, the Yellow Jackets faced off against the Benton Lady Panthers (18-10) for the 6A state title, and Sheridan cruised to a victory by the score of 6-0.

Golden Lions poised to make run at SWAC championship

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff head baseball coach Carlos James is proud of his guys for winning their third consecutive Western Division championship, but they feel as if they haven’t gained the respect they deserve. Even after all that winning, the SWAC coaches still only selected one Golden Lion baseball player to the post season all-conference teams. That lone player is Syler Henson, who won relief pitcher of the year. UAPB will enter the 2016 SWAC Baseball Tournament with something to prove.

The Golden Lions of the diamond finsih the regular with solid victory

Finishing the regular season off strongly is always the objective when heading into the post season. It’s also always better to send your seniors out with a win on senior day instead of a loss. The 2015-2016 Western Division champion UAPB Golden Lions did just that by knocking off the Alcorn State Braves in the regular season finale at the Torii Hunter Complex by a final score of 15-6.

Dissapointing loss for Pine Bluff brings season to an end

Just as in basketball, the Pine Bluff High Zebras baseball team opened up the 2016 6A state tournament squaring off against the Mountain Home Blue Bombers. However, this time around the Bombers were the ones who were celebrating in the end. Mountain Home ended Pine Bluff’s hopes of a 6A title run by defeating the Zebras by a final score of 8-6.

UCA picks apart UAPB for unchallenged win

The last non-conference game of the regular season wasn’t very pleasing for the Golden Lions. Tuesday evening, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (20-23) hosted the University of Central Arkansas (22-23), and the Bears were able to jump out and stay on top of the Golden Lions to win by a final score of 9-0.
