Dollarway avoids collapse at Forrest City

FORREST CITY — The Dollarway Cardinals avoided a major upset Friday night — holding on to a 38-36 win over Forrest City after leading by 20 going into the final quarter. Forrest City scored in the final minute to get within two points but the game-tying 2-point conversion attempt failed, securing the win for the Cardinals (2-0).

Corrections for 08-15-14

The location of Dollarway’s football practices was incorrectly reported in an article in Wednesday’s issue. The Cardinals have been practicing at Robert F. Morehead Middle School near Townsend Park, while construction continues at the high school gymnasium.

Tigers clinch spot in title game

Watson Chapel graduate Kirel Young saw his dedication to the batting cage pay off Saturday as his run-scoring triple in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Pine Bluff Tigers a 4-3 lead and eventual win over the Mississippi Vision at Taylor Field.

Ridgway has big shoes to fill
