Wildcats move on in Cabot tourney

CABOT — A 14-4 third-quarter run gave Watson Chapel the cushion it needed to hold off Searcy for a 50-37 boys basketball win Tuesday in the first round of the Cabot Pre-Holiday Tournament.

Watson Chapel (2-0) held the lead after every period. It was 21-19 at halftime, but a strong defensive effort for the Wildcats held off the Lions.

Xavier Young scored 16 points to lead the Wildcats. Ben Marcus added 10 points and Tevin Brown had eight.

Watson Chapel will play Benton at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinal.

Ridgway Christian 63, Ashley Christian 35

At Ridgway Christian, the Eagles (3-2) used balanced scoring and a big second half to score a decisive victory.

The Eagles raced to a 20-10 lead through one period and were ahead 29-8 at halftime. But a 20-5 third quarter set Ridgway’s sails for the rest of the game.

Cody Anderson scored 13 points and Micah Cottrell added seven to lead Ridgway, which will visit El Dorado West Side on Friday.

McGehee 64, Dumas 53

McGEHEE — The Owls led wire-to-wire and improved to 4-0 on the season with a win over their Desha County rival Bobcats.

Tracy Lawson scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down six rebounds for McGehee, a 3A semifinalist from last season. Kendall Handley added 11 points and three rebounds.

A 20-11 lead for the Owls dwindled to 31-28 at halftime, but the Owls slowly gained distance on the Bobcats in the second half en route to the 11-point win.

Johnny Gibson led Dumas with 15 points. Jeffrey Morgan added 10.


Fordyce 54, Warren 37

FORDYCE — Three Lady Bugs scored in double figures, and Fordyce (9-3) came away with a 17-point victory.

Lacie Hulse led all scorers with 18 points, Tiara Jimerson added 12 and Alyssa English had 10 for Fordyce. Macy Moseley contributed seven points and five rebounds.

Shamiqua Pickett led Warren with 16 points.

Fordyce won the junior high girls game 39-25.

Drew Central 61, Bearden 22

MONTICELLO — Cierra Gardner scored 20 of her game-high 24 points in the first quarter as the Lady Pirates easily outdistanced the Lady Bears.

Allison Eubanks added 12 points for Drew Central (6-2).
