The White Hall Sports Hall of Fame will offer two scholarships to a senior boy athlete and senior girl athlete this year.
The scholarships are named in honor of Jerry Lybrand, a White Hall alumnus and superintendent who died in December. Lybrand earned all-district and all-state honors as an athlete and earned a scholarship to Henderson State, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology and physical education.
He returned to White Hall in 1966 to begin his teaching career and became superintendent of the White Hall School District in 1991, a position he held until his retirement after 33 years of service. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.
To be eligible for application, students must have participated in at least one athletic activity this year, have a “C” average or better, submit an official school transcript and provide two references. Applications may be obtained at the White Hall High counselor’s office and must be returned by April 25.
Tickets for the Hall of Fame Sports Banquet, May 13, are $15 each and available from any Hall of Fame committee member, any coach or in the principal’s office. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the banquet at 6:30.
This year’s Hall class includes Ted Jenkins, Steve Edwards and Darrell Rhodes. The outstanding senior boy and girl athletes in each sport will be recognized.
