CROSSETT — Star City clinched its second straight 8-4A Conference baseball championship Thursday, riding a complete game by Blake Wynn to defeat Crossett 4-3.
Wynn scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs in the win. He struck out three and walked none.
Star City (18-4, 12-1 in 8-4A), which had nine hits, was led by Austin Powell and Wynn with two hits apiece. Austin Capps drove in two runs.
Star City has a two-game lead over Hamburg (10-3 in 8-4A) and will close conference play at 5 p.m. today at DeWitt. Crossett fell to 9-4 in the 8-4A.
Watson Chapel 6, Magnolia 5
At Monroe-Ryburn Field, Megan Moore went 3 for 4, and Watson Chapel scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie, en route to the win.
Magnolia cut it to 6-5 in the seventh.
Lexie Downing allowed one walk, struck out three and held the Lady Panthers to no hits in two innings for the win. Starter Maegan Greer struck out four and allowed five hits in five innings.
Lauren McCullough and Lexie Downing each had two hits, while Jamie Bridges added one for Watson Chapel (12-8, 7-3 in 5A-South).
The Lady Wildcats will host White Hall today.
