SC’s Patton tosses no-hitter

LAKE VILLAGE — Cain Patton threw a no-hit game Thursday, and Star City totaled 13 hits in a 21-0, six-inning victory over Lake Village in 8-4A Conference baseball.

Patton allowed only one walk for the defending 8-4A champion Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0). He also had plenty of run support, as Austin Capps led the Bulldogs’ offense going 4 for 5.

Blake Wynn, Austin Powell and Tye Brown each had two hits for Star City, which will play Watson Chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.

Sheridan 10, Pangburn 0

SHERIDAN — The Yellowjackets (3-2) finished their own invitational tournament unbeaten after blanking Pangburn.

No statistics were available.

Fordyce 5, Hampton 2

FORDYCE — Jakeymes Gates pitched the final three innings and picked up the victory to help the Redbugs improve to 2-2 on the season.

Gates relieved Ross Rodgers, who threw the first four innings.

Jordan Manes went 2 for 3 and Rodgers was 1 for 3 for the Redbugs.

The game was Hampton’s season opener.


Pine Bluff 19-20, Dollarway 0-5

At Hill-Alford Field, Jada Taylor totaled three home runs — two of them grand slams — and drove in 12 runs in the doubleheader sweep for the Fillies (2-0).

Taylor was 4 for 5 and also pitched the first-game victory. Alana Dunlap won the second game in the circle.

Pine Bluff had 24 hits combined in the two games. Ryan Goins went 4 for 5 on the day, hitting for the cycle. Kye Richardson and Kia Kilpatrick each went 3 for 4 for the Fillies.

Watson Chapel 7, Stuttgart 0

At Monroe-Ryburn Field, Watson Chapel (1-1) scored four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to pull away from Stuttgart in a nonconference win.

In the sixth inning, Lexie Downing tripled and Lauren McFalls doubled for Watson Chapel. Those were the Lady Wildcats’ only extra-base hits of the game.

Ridgway Christian 10, SW Christian 0 (Wed.)

At Seabrook Family Christian Center, Ridgway Christian run-ruled Southwest Christian behind Lauren Rose’s 11 strikeouts in five innings. Rose also held Southwest to two hits.

Paige Topping hit 2 for 3 with and drove in three runs.


White Hall 4, Monticello 1

MONTICELLO — Jordan Lawson finished off a dominant night for the Bulldogs (2-2) with two goals, and the visitors won their second straight.

Lawson scored off assists from Tyler Maynard and Blake McDaniel in the second half. Maynard scored the opening goal in the fourth minute off an Eric Morton cross, and Kinzie Kight converted a free kick in the 25th minute.

Monticello scored its only goal in the 71st minute.

White Hall improved to 2-2 with the win.
