Robinson helps Wildcats win big in Lonoke


LONOKE — Watson Chapel defeated Hazen by 38 points Thursday in the first round of the Goldfish Classic, and Leonard Robinson had plenty to do with it.

The junior guard led the Wildcats with 26 points in the 84-46 victory inside Lonoke’s new Gina Cox Center. Watson Chapel will take on Stuttgart, a 44-37 winner over Batesville, at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinal round.

Also for Watson Chapel, Ben Marcus added 12 points, Sam King had 10 and Greg Vaughn netted nine.

Stuttgart 44, Batesville 37

LONOKE — An 11-2 first quarter gave the Ricebirds (2-4) quite the start they needed on its way to beating the Pioneers in the Goldfish Classic.

Stuttgart led 24-12 at halftime and 36-28 after three quarters.

Lamarian Luckett scored 10 points and Dewayne Minter added nine for Stuttgart.

Sheridan 64, Prescott 34

CAMDEN — Sheridan (4-6) outscored Prescott 22-5 in the second quarter and went on to a 30-point victory Thursday in the Camden Fairview Holiday Classic.

Austen Theiss scored 23 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Yellowjackets. Dylan Morris added 17 points and seven assists and Griffin Smith tallied 11 points and six rebounds.

Sheridan will play either Camden Fairview or Stephens at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

GIRLS

Star City 45, Cave City 42 (OT)

HEBER SPRINGS — Star City took an 8-5 advantage in overtime to come away with the victory over Cave City at a tournament here.

Cave City led by a basket at halftime and after the third quarter, but the game was tied at 37 after regulation.

Jaida Harden scored 12 points, Tequila Walker added nine and Amira Ford had eight for Star City, which will play the Greene County Tech/McCrory winner at 4 p.m. Friday.
