Preps Roundup: Owls finish regular season unbeaten

McGEHEE — The McGehee Owls wrapped up an undefeated regular season and clinched their second straight 8-3A Conference championship with a 70-52 win over the Camden Harmony Grove Hornets on Friday night.

Tracey Lawson led McGehee (15-0, 8-0 8-3A) with 20 points while Evander Bailey contributed with 15 and Da’Vondrick Lison chipped in with 10.

The 8-3A District Tournament begins on Tuesday and McGehee is scheduled to play the winner of Smackover and Drew Central on Wednesday. Harmony Grove (4-3 in 8-3A) will play Drew Central in its regular-season finale on Monday.

White Hall 63, Magnolia 59

WHITE HALL — J’Breun Steen had one of his best nights of the season — narrowly missing a triple double — as the Bulldogs defeated the Panthers, 63-59, on Friday night.

Steen finished the game with 21 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists as White Hall improved to 6-14 overall and 3-7 in the 5A-South.

Jaylen Spicer contributed with 10 points for White Hall, which will play at Watson Chapel on Tuesday.


Dumas 48, Monticello 36

DUMAS — Yasmine Franklin scored a game-high 23 points but it was not enough as the Lady Billies fell 48-36 Friday night to the Lady Cats.

Whitney Henderson led Dumas (16-9, 8-4 in 8-3A) with 15 points and Mona Mitchell had 11.

Monticello (9-9, 4-7) is one game behind Warren and Hamburg for the fourth and final regional playoff spot. The Lady Billies will play at Crossett on Tuesday and will close out the season with back-to-back home games against DeWitt and Star City.


Watson Chapel 52, CAC 43

SHERIDAN — Watson Chapel advanced to the semifinals of the River City Conference tournament with a nine-point win over Central Arkansas Christian.

Jonathan Harris scored 15 points, Griffin Penny had 12 and Simeon Blair added 11 for the Wildcats (15-5), who will take on either Pulaski Academy or Jacksonville at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

In eighth-grade action, Watson Chapel won its RCC tournament game 39-31 over Jacksonville. Ja’Kobi Jackson had 16 points and Terencio Wyrick added 12 for Watson Chapel (9-3), which will take on Sheridan or White Hall at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
