Preps Roundup: Dollarway boys qualify for state tourney

CLINTON — The Dollarway Cardinals started off fast and never looked back as they defeated Highland 68-48 in the first round of the 4A East Region tournament Wednesday afternoon.

“We came out ready to play,” Dollarway head coach Ellis “Chief” Berry said. “Both offensively, defensively we played together as a team.

“We got after them tonight and we knew it was a must win.”

The Cardinals (17-3) secured a spot in the 4A state tournament and advances to the semifinals of the regional. They will play the winner of today’s Lonoke/Jonesboro Westside game.

In Wednesday’s game against Highland, Dollarway was 26 of 58 from the floor and outrebounded Highland 25 to 14. They also forced Highland into 22 turnovers.

“Shots were falling and everything and they were ready to bring it tonight,” Berry said.

Dollarway was also 13 of 27 from the three-point line.

Senior Kabion Ento scored a game-high 20 points and Arkansas football commit Joshua Liddell contributed with 18 points. Darieus Robinson chipped in with 12 points.

Avery Johnson led Highland with 14 points.

Monticello 63, Arkadelphia 62

NASHVILLE — A shot by senior Chris Robertson kept the Billies from missing out on the 4A state tournament.

Robertson’s shot gave Monticello the lead with about four seconds remaining and Arkadelphia’s desperation shot missed the target.

Monticello will play in the semifinals of the 4A South tournament against the winner of tonight’s Nashville-Hamburg game at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

CAC 44, Warren 33

NASHVILLE — Three Central Arkansas Christian players scored in double-digits and held Warren to just two points in the final quarter as CAC defeated Warren 44-33 in the first round of the 4A South Region tournament.

Stephen Flanigan scored a game-high 15 points for CAC and Joesph Strange contributed with 13 points. Davis Allen chipped in with 10 points.

Lafoy Smith led Warren (8-7) with nine points while Darveon Brown and Franklin Gilmore contributed with six points each.

The loss ends the Lumberjacks season.


4A South Region

Star City 49, Bauxite 29

NASHVILLE — Jaida Harden scored 29 points and led Star City to an easy 49-29 win over Bauxite Wednesday in the first round of the 4A South Region tournament.

Harden also had nine rebounds, five steals and three assists to go along with her game-high points.

Lindsay Karen contributed with eight points, two rebounds and was 4 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Star City (25-2) led Bauxite 25-13 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs will play the winner of Central Arkansas Christian and Crossett on Friday.

Allison Packett led Bauxite with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting. She also had two steals, three rebounds and was 5 of 7 from the free-throw line.

Malvern 85, Warren 47

NASHVILLE — The Lady ‘Jacks season ended with a blowout loss to the No. 1 team in the 4A.

Malvern jumped out to a 28-12 lead after one quarter, held a 52-18 halftime lead and was up 78-32 entering the fourth.

Shamiqua Pickett led Warren (12-12) with 24 points and Morgan Gathen added 13.

Malvern was led by Raven Baker with 22, Akysha Westbrook with 11 and Alivia Huell with 10.

Stuttgart lost to Valley View, 67-41, on Wednesday night. The loss ends the Lady Ricebirds (13-13) season.
