Preps Roundup: Bulldogs pay back Yellowjackets

SHERIDAN — White Hall recovered from a five-point halftime deficit and avenged a humiliating loss at home to Sheridan by defeating the 6A Yellowjackets 54-53 Tuesday night.

The 5A Bulldogs (2-1) had a five-point lead after the third quarter and led by as many as eight points in the final quarter. Sheridan knocked down a couple of three-pointers, including one at the final buzzer for the game’s final margin.

White Hall had three players score double digits, including junior J’Breun Steen, who led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Tyler Pirson contributed with 14 points and Kirk Baugh had 12.

“We got the lead in the third quarter,” White Hall head coach Marc Stringer said. “We just spread them out a little bit and played a little defense. We used our speed and built it up to an eight-point lead.”

Stringer said they were able to knock down their free throws down the stretch and it kept the Yellowjackets at bay.

Senior Griffin Smith led Sheridan with 16 points and Dylan Morris finished with 12. Junior Jessie Feathers chipped in with nine points.

The Bulldogs will play England on Dec. 2 in the first round of the DeWitt Tournament.
