Preps Roundup: Aiken’s shutout gem moves Bears to 14-1

WOODLAWN — J.P. Aiken held DeWitt to three hits in a complete game, Taylor Stitt launched a three-run homer, and Woodlawn improved to 14-1 on the baseball season with a 7-0 win over DeWitt on Monday.

Aiken also struck out 12 Dragons and walked one in seven innings. Stitt batted 3 for 4 on the day, his first hit being the three-run shot. He drove in another run on a single.

Jacob Richardson also homered in two runs in the sixth. He drove in another run earlier in the game.

Star City 12, Stuttgart 1 (5 inn.)

STAR CITY — Three pitchers combined to allow just one run on five hits as Star City defeated Stuttgart 12-1 in five innings Monday night.

Starter Garry Hill lasted just 1 1/3 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout. Blake Wynn struck out four batters in 1 1/3 innings and Austin Powell closed it out, allowing two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Star City (10-2, 4-0 in 8-4A) scored two runs in the first, three in the second, and seven in the third. Stuttgart scored its only run in the top of the fourth.

Blake Marks pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief and allowed five runs (all earned) on three hits with three walks and no strikeouts to take the loss.

Austin Capps led Star City’s offense, finishing the day 2 for 3 with three RBIs and one run scored. Max Ross and Tye Brown had a hit and two RBIs each.

Preston Earlywine led Stuttgart with two hits.

Fordyce 9, Monticello 5

FORDYCE — Three Redbugs recorded multiple hits as Fordyce defeated Monticello 9-5 Monday night.

Tommy Tidwell, Braden Chambers and Caleb Hartgen all tallied two hits for the Redbugs. Chambers was also the winning pitcher.

Fordyce (7-1) scored three runs in the first, five in the fourth and one in the fifth. Monticello scored all five of its runs in the seventh inning.

Alex Payne was credited with the save for the Redbugs.

Fordyce will open up 8-3A Conference play today at home against Camden Harmony Grove.


Woodlawn 16, McGehee 3 (5 inn.)

WOODLAWN — Lily Henderson remained undefeated in the circle. So did Woodlawn on the season.

Henderson gave the Lady Bears a great start with three strikeouts in two innings, and Woodlawn improved to 11-0 with a 13-run win. Henderson has been the winning pitcher in each game this season.

Madisyn Stewart drove in three runs on two doubles to lead Woodlawn’s offense. Megan Howard was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, and Summer Shelby went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

Drew Stitt kept McGehee at bay for the remaining three innings.

Stuttgart 12, Des Arc 2 (5 inn.)

DES ARC — Jaelyn Maddox dominated both sides of the plate Monday night as the Lady Ricebirds defeated the Lady Eagles 12-2 in five innings.

Maddox led the way offensively, finishing 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

On the mound, she pitched a complete game and allowed just two runs (both earned) on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Stuttgart scored two runs in the first, one in the second, eight in the third and one in the fifth. Des Arc scored both of its runs in the first inning.

For Stuttgart, Samantha Davis was 1 for 2 with three RBIs and two walks, Sidney Barron was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Kaley Fruge was 1 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
