WHITE HALL — In a battle of rivals still undefeated in 5A-South play, Maddie Martin and Lauren Graves led White Hall to a 4-1 win over Watson Chapel on Thursday.
Martin finished the game 2 for 3 with three RBIs. She opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second inning before cranking a home run to lead off the fifth to make it a 3-1 game.
White Hall (8-3, 3-0) plated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Ciara Linker roped an RBI double. Linker and Summer Henderson each finished 1 for 2 as the Lady Bulldogs managed just four hits on the afternoon.
Watson Chapel (5-4, 3-1) scratched across its only run in the third inning to pull within one at 2-1.
“It was a 2-1 game for a few innings, until the fifth inning,” White Hall coach Terri Smith said. “Our team did a good job of not giving up when they scored there in the third.”
Graves had a lot to do with that as she held the Lady Wildcats scoreless the rest of the way. Graves threw all seven innings, allowing five hits and two walks while recording six strikeouts.
“Chapel is always a big game,” Smith said. “The kids all know each other and play together during the summer.
“They came out pretty pumped.”
White Hall will play next at home against Hot Springs at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. No statistics were available for Watson Chapel, which plays this weekend in a tournament at Heber Springs.
