Lady ‘Jacks secure final regional berth

HAMBURG — Shamiqua Pickett completed a three-point play with about a minute left in the game to give Warren a 39-38 lead, and the Lady Jacks would use their stout defense to pick up the win by the same score Monday to earn the fourth and final regional playoff spot from the 8-4A Conference.

Warren head coach Sandra Hatley said Pickett made the bucket and the free throw and then the two teams went back and forth for the last minute — neither one scoring again. Keisha Martin had a chance to give Hamburg the lead after being sent to the line with about 17 seconds left, but she missed both free throws.

“Our defense held them off,” Hatley said.

Pickett finished with a game-high 21 points for Warren (12-11, 7-7 8-4A).

Hamburg was led by Marenthia Farmer, who finished with 13 points. Martin contributed with 10 points.

Warren will play Malvern, the 7-4A champion, on Wednesday in the 4A South Region tournament in Nashville.
