MARIANNA — Senior Joshua Liddell scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the Dollarway Cardinals rallied from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat Stuttgart 57-49 Saturday night in the 2-4A district championship.
“We picked up our intensity on defense,” Dollarway head coach Ellis “Chief” Berry said. “We started getting turnovers and turning them into points.”
Dollarway (16-3) got off to a slow start as they trailed Stuttgart (13-13) 15-10 by the end of the first quarter.
The Cardinals got within two points to start the fourth quarter thanks to a three-pointer by Liddell.
“He stepped up real big for us tonight,” Berry said. “He got the momentum going for us.”
Dollarway, which won its second straight district championship, advances to the regional tournament in Clinton. The Cardinals first game is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
“It means a great deal to us,” Berry said. “… It gives us a lot of momentum heading into Wednesday.”
