Big second half carries Lady Warriors past Fillies

JONESBORO — For one half, Pine Bluff seemed to have the Little Rock Hall Lady Warriors right where the Fillies wanted them.

But the Lady Warriors’ championship experience kicked in soon enough, and the Fillies will have to wait yet another year for their first state championship since 1995.

Hall, the defending 6A state champion, outscored Pine Bluff 38-19 in the second half and posted a 60-36 victory Monday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 6A girls basketball state tournament. Hall will take on Little Rock Parkview on Tuesday afternoon for a trip to the state title game in Hot Springs later this week.

Hall beat Parkview in last year’s final.

Pine Bluff, the South third seed, finished 22-7.

Hall gained a little separation on Pine Bluff in the second quarter to take a 22-17 halftime lead, after both teams were tied at 9 apiece through the first quarter.

Jasmyn Eckermann scored 13 points and Ajia Richardson had 11 to lead the Fillies. No other Pine Bluff player had more than four points.

Taylor Collins led Hall with 16 points. Terralynne Dominick and Shakyla Hill each had 12.

Tuesday’s semifinal will be a matchup of the East’s second seed (Hall) against the fourth seed.
