Area schools cancel games

Due to inclement weather and state playoffs for basketball, area high schools cancelled baseball and softball games scheduled for Thursday.

Watson Chapel was scheduled to play Sheridan in softball but due to the recent rain, the game was cancelled and will more than likely not be made up.

“The field still has too much water on it,” Sheridan head coach Eddie Woodall said. “There is still water in the infield, which is very unusual for our field.”

Sheridan — which has yet to play a game this year — is scheduled to host Cutter Morning Star today but Woodall said that game may be cancelled as well.

Stuttgart athletic director Billy Elmore announced on Wednesday that all spring sports game scheduled for Thursday were cancelled due to the Ricebirds being in the 4A state basketball tournament in Lonoke.

The baseball game between Stuttgart and Pine Bluff will not likely be made up either according to Fillies head coach Ryan Stinson.

As of right now, the Zebras are still scheduled to play at Watson Chapel today beginning at 4:30 p.m. They will then host Watson Chapel on Tuesday at Taylor Field.

The Billy Bock Classic is scheduled to begin on March 13 and features six area schools.

Stuttgart softball has yet to play a game this year either. The Lady Ricebirds are scheduled to host a doubleheader against Pulaski Robinson on Tuesday.
