AAA postpones state tourney games

NOTE: Updated to reflect that the Sheridan girls team will play Thursday.

The Arkansas Activities Association has postponed the slate of state high school basketball tournament games by one day in classes 6A, 5A, 3A, 2A and 1A. Games in classes 7A and 4A will remain as scheduled.

The decision was made as a result of winter weather, which has left the state covered with snow or ice.

“The decision was based on a safety issue,” AAA executive director Lance Taylor said in a statement Monday. “We wanted to make sure that everyone could travel to our state locations without hazardous driving conditions. The weather conditions are not favorable to travel on Tuesday, and warmer temperatures are expected for the rest of the week.”

The postponement means the semifinals in 6A, 5A, 3A, 2A and 1A will be played on Sunday starting at 12:30 p.m. Playoff times for all other games will remain as scheduled.

The state finals will be held March 13-15 at Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
