Run defense at premium

LITTLE ROCK — If Arkansas plays that ended with a too-flat pass and a too-high lateral received any attention this week from Northern Illinois defensive coordinator Jay Niemann, it was no more than a mention.

Passing game missing from Arkansas’ repertoire

The Razorbacks had wrapped up another dominant win, beating Texas Tech 49-28 in Lubbock. It was the second straight week Arkansas had bullied an opponent with its bruising ground game, putting together a 438-yard rushing effort. But it also was the second straight game quarterback Brandon Allen didn’t have to ice his throwing shoulder after attempting only a handful of passes in a run-dominated offense.

Defense plays big part in UA victory

LUBBOCK, Texas — Maligned, vilified, smeared. Verbs of Arkansas’ defense past didn’t seem appropriate Saturday in west Texas. Against otherwise apparently long odds, it was the Razorbacks’ defense that sparked Arkansas to its first significant non-conference win in 11 years.

Arkansas opens its doors

Arkansas will open its practice field to fans for the first time this preseason when it scrimmages in Razorback Stadium this afternoon. But don’t count on the Razorbacks to reveal much with season opener at Auburn two weeks away.
