FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas will get its rematch with California.
The Golden Bears (20-13) beat Utah Valley 77-64 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night, setting up a second-round game against the Razorbacks (21-11) in Berkeley, Calif., on Monday at 10 p.m.
It will be the second time the teams have met this season after opening the 2013 Maui Invitational last November. Cal beat Arkansas 85-77 in the tournament, dominating the Razorbacks on the glass. The Golden Bears outrebounded Arkansas 48-32, grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and scored 24 second-chance points.
The winner of Monday’s game will advance to the third round and face either SMU or LSU for a spot in the NIT’s Final Four in New York City.
“We’ve done a lot of firsts that haven’t been done here in a while,” Arkansas coach Mike Anderson said after Tuesday’s win against Indiana State. “With that being said, get ready, there may be some more. This team here, I feel like they’re hungry.”
