FAYETTEVILLE — Grambling State scored all three of its runs over the last two innings but Arkansas was able to hold off the late rally as the Razorbacks defeated the Tigers 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
After Grambling (3-16) scored two runs in the eighth inning, the Tigers had a shot to tie or take the lead in the top of the ninth.
Brandon Kiser singled and Roger Diaz reached on an error as the first two runners reached. A double steal with one out put runners on second and third.
Kiser scored on a wild pitch and Diaz moved up to third. The runner would be left stranded though as the Razorbacks (10-7) prevented the game-tying run to score.
Arkansas scored all four of its run in the bottom of the third inning.
Colin Poche is credited with the win for Arkansas. He went four innings, and allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.
Issac O’Bear is tagged with the loss after giving up four runs (all earned) on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in just 2 2/3 innings.
Bobby Wernes led the Razorbacks at the plate, finishing the day with two hits in four trips and two RBIs. Blake Baxendale finished 2 for 3.
For Grambling, Dion Holbrook finished 1 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Kiser finished 1 for 4 with a run scored.
