A Malvern woman and a Mississippi man were killed early Saturday afternoon when their SUVs collided on U.S. 270 west of Arkansas 104 in Jefferson County near the Hardin community, State Trooper Philip R. Felton said.
Marsha Lynn Reed, 55, of 165 Walco Lane in Malvern, and Edward Ingram Beets, 59, of Columbia, Miss., were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner David Westbrook, the officer said.
Reed, wife of an Arkansas Department of Correction official, was westbound on U.S. 270 when her 2009 GMC Acadia crossed the center line and collided head-on with Beets’ 2006 GMC Yukon, the accident report said.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:56 p.m., according to the investigating officer. The two deaths raised the total number of traffic fatalities on Arkansas roadways to 515 for the year.
