Rison — Rison small business owner Charles Roberts has announced he will seek the Republican nomination in the Arkansas House of Representatives District 10 race. The newly drawn House district includes the eastern half of Cleveland County and parts of Drew, Lincoln, Jefferson and Grant counties.
Roberts says his campaign focus will be on fostering private-sector job growth, promoting economic development in South Arkansas and improving the state’s education system.
“I’m proud to be running for an opportunity to serve the citizens of House District 10,” said Roberts. “As a business owner, I will work hard to grow our economy, encourage job creation and make our community a great place to raise a family and build a business.”
Roberts is the owner of Charles Roberts Painting in Rison, a painting and remodeling company founded in 1981. He also is currently serving his second term on the Rison Zoning board.
“South Arkansas needs growth and we need to start in our own backyard with untapped natural resources like lignite,” said Roberts. “The southern portion of our state is full of lignite coal reserves that could be explored and mined, creating more and better jobs for our friends and neighbors.”
Roberts said he also wants to concentrate on initiatives to improve test scores of children attending K-12 public schools in Arkansas. “If elected, I will work to make sure our teachers have the tools and resources necessary to prepare our children for graduation and beyond,” said Roberts.
Roberts is a native of Rison, graduated from Rison High School and attended the University of Monticello. He also graduated from Faith Bible Institute based in Monroe, La. He and his wife, Connie, have been married for 38 years and have two children and four grandchildren. They are members of Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist church in Rison where Charles serves as a deacon.
“I want my grandchildren to enjoy the same Arkansas that I’ve grown up in,” Roberts said. “My goal is to be a representative of the people and provide my district with a conservative voice in the State House who will fight for hardworking Arkansas taxpayers.”
