Nine honored for service to community


Nine recipients were honored Tuesday evening with community awards at the White Hall Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards banquet at White Hall High School, according to Tommy Castleberry, chamber president.

Awards went to:

– The first James “Jitters” Morgan Small Business Award was presented to Terry Hardware, a local business established four decades ago;

– W.F. “Jack” Moody Award for community service, Rickey Doucey, who is retiring as operations supervisor for the city;

– Clara Burton Education Award, Dorothy Pollett, a sixth grade reading teacher at Taylor Elementary School; – Bridges-Socia Memorial Award for Youth, Orion Vick II, a senior at White Hall High School;

– Youth Award, Don and Kim Malone, volunteer coaches for the White Hall High School soccer team and active volunteers with the White Hall Soccer Association;

– Senior Citizen Award, Mary Lou Mauldin, director of the White Hall Museum;

– Volunteer Fireman of the Year, Bill Beadle, a volunteer since 1981 and the department’s fire marshal; and

– Volunteer Police Officer of the Year, Elizabeth Boyer, part-time officer.

Brian Polansky, an educator, delivered the keynote address.
