The second annual Homeruns for Breast Cancer was held last weekend at the White Hall Softball Complex.
This year’s competition brought six teams to a tournament style matchup. Four of the teams were from within Jefferson County. This year neighbors in Star City and England also sent teams to support the cause.
All proceeds from the event were designated for the American Cancer Society of Jefferson County.
A $5 per player entry fee was assessed to raise funds. Corporate and private sponsors also gave donations to help with the cost of the tournament and some donated directly to ACS.
The tournament featured several games over two days. Admission was free to the public but donations were welcomed at the gate. Softball fans could purchase refreshments from the concession stand with its profits benefiting the cause as well.
This event was organized by sisters Jordan Drye and Morgan Ellis who are currently helping their mother fight her own battle with breast cancer.
