With the new year, the Arkansas Good Roads Transportation Council, Little Rock, welcomed J.W. “Bill” Ramsey as its new executive director on Jan. 1.
“Because of my past experience, this job is the perfect fit for me, and I look forward to the coming year,” Ramsey said.
With the recent passage of the GARVEE Bonds and dedicated road tax, Ramsey said, “This is one of the most exciting times in the transportation industry, and I couldn’t be more pleased with this opportunity to make a positive difference in the state’s future.”
He replaces D.B. Hill, who served as interim executive director for eight months following the resignation of Johnnie Bolin.
Ramsey has served on the AGRTC Board for about 11 years. He served nine terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives until 1990. He was a legislative lobbyist for the Associated General Contractors and most recently, was Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce President/CEO.
Ramsey is former Prairie Grove City Treasurer.
Also, he is serving on the Boards of the Fayetteville Rotary Club, the Arkansas Community Foundation and the Bikes Blues & BBQ. He served on the Arkansas Aviation Historical Society Board, and is past president of the Prairie Grove Lions Club, the Prairie Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Prairie Grove Industrial Development Corporation and the Northwest Arkansas Motion Picture Commission.
In his new position, he said he looks forward to renewing old friendships around the state and as his first priority, he plans “to grow the AGRTC’s membership.”
