Anthony Fernando, a senior in the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries, has won first place in the science category at the Mid-South Undergraduate Research Conference.
The fisheries biology major from Euclid, Ohio, will receive a monetary award and certificate for his presentation at the conference held at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. Fernando won in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Paper Prize for a paper he wrote titled “Discriminant Analysis of Principle Components Applied to Mississippian Period Fish Effigies for Taxonomic Identification.”
The awards are granted based on technical merit, presentation style and the ability of presenters to explain their research. The judges expressed a great deal of admiration for the work of all of the participants, according to a conference spokesperson.
